Articles of the week…

Surpise! Instead of publishing my standard “Articles of the Week” template, I decided to shout out a few of the blogs I have been binge-reading since I joined the wordpress community.

If you don’t see your blog here, it’s not for lack of love! These are the first blogs that came to mind when I decided to write this post, but there are countless others that could fall among them if I devoted proper meditation to the subject.

The Incidental Naturalist

I followed this animal-centric blog even before I had a blog of my own! David posts gorgeous, exotic photos, along with short stories about how he caught the shot. He has a light, informational writing style that makes reading a breeze (a delicious, tropical breeze, generally!)

Favorite post? Dazzling Bee-eaters of Sri Lanka and A Fight for Life; Orang-utans!

If Mermaids Wore Suspenders

Aubrey masterminds unexpected connections between literature and classical music, or other works of literature. In doing so, she not only amuses her audience, she enlightens them as well. I enjoy her work so much, I even made one her posts my first (and so far, only) re-blog!

PS-She is doing her pHD in music and cognition at Northwestern!

Favorite post? The “Fairy Tale” Genre in Music

Laura Lecce

The tagline of Laura’s blog is “my colorful view of the world,” which couldn’t be more appropriate! I was hooked on her writing when she described the speckles on an orchid as a “huge colony of bats flying away from the cave in the center and getting further and further into the distance as they fly away.” I also love Laura’s blog because she is a fellow scientist-by-day, artist-by-night.

PS- Blog could be named “Dr. Laura Lecce.” This girl has her pHD! How cool is that?

Windblown Words

Paul drops great insight on the blogosphere whenever he shares a post about the craft of writing. Even his comments on other people’s blog posts are extensively thought-out and smoothly articulated.

PS- I think Paul must be a birdwatcher too, and I’ve never met a birdwatcher I didn’t like. He has some fabulous pictures of ducks with their butts in the air.

A Flower Named Jasmine

Jasmine owns and operates the most aesthetically pleasing blog I’ve ever come across. Seriously, it’s a work of art. I have to confess that I don’t always fully read her posts, but I do visit regularly to see what new images she’s curated. She has a knack for vintage, close-up shots.

Favorite post? Adventures in Cornwall: St. Ives.

Roberta Pimentel

Roberta is a sweet-spirited young woman who has ocean-hopped from Brazil to Norway. In her posts, she focuses on issues of compassion and human connection. Plus, her blog is available in 5 languages. Impressive much?

PS- I really admire Roberta’s commitment to being “an award free blog.” I’m sure she could use awards as fodder for tons of posts, but as she puts it “I choose my readers before any nomination in order to be able to do my best to inspire my readers with every post that I make or reblog.”

Elly Mackay

So, if you have been following my blog, you probably know about my extreme fan-crush on author/illustrator Elly Mackay. I stalk her blog like nobody’s business. If you want to stalk her blog too, you may learn some of the secrets behind the magic of images like that one up there.
